Polling Locations
Vote centers are in place for this election. Any eligible elector within the Ballard Community School District may vote at any of the following locations:
- Kelley City Hall, 1111 Grace St, Kelley, IA 50134
- Slater Log Cabin, 305 Benton St, Slater, IA 50244
- Huxley Citizens’ Community Center, Safe Room, North Door, 515 N Main Ave, Huxley, IA 50124
- Cambridge City Center, 225 Water St, Cambridge, IA 50046
All voters in the Ballard CSD will vote in Story County for this election
Voter Registration
The voter pre-registration deadline is Monday, August 28, at 5 p.m. (Voter Registration Form)

New registrants after the deadline -- including on Election Day -- will follow Election Day Registration procedures. Proof of identity and proof of residence will be required.
Absentee Voting
Absentee Voting (in-person)
Voting in the Auditor's Office begins Wednesday, August 23, and will be available during regular business hours until 4:30 p.m., Monday, September 11. Regular business hours in the Auditor's Office are 8 am - 4:30 pm. On statutory deadline dates, the office is open until 5 pm. Go to the Story County Administration Building, Auditor's Office, 2nd Floor.
As of July 1, 2020, identification is required of registered voters when casting an in-person absentee ballot.
Absentee Voting (by mail)
The first day that ballots will be mailed is Wednesday, August 23. The last day to request a mailed ballot is Monday, August 28. The request must be received in the Auditor’s Office by 5 p.m. that day. On the request form, mark "Special" under type of election, and fill in the election date (09/12/2023) in the proper area.
Returning Your Mailed Absentee Ballot
By Mail. A return envelope is provided with pre-paid postage. All ballots must be received in the Auditor's Office by the close of polls on Election Day in order to be considered for counting.
In Person. You or a member of your household or immediate family may deliver your ballot to the Auditor's Office up until 8 p.m. on Election Day (Tuesday, September 12). Completed ballots may not be dropped off or used at polling locations.
By Delivery Agent. Disabled voters ONLY may designate someone else to mail or deliver the voted ballot. The instructions included in your mailed absentee ballot packet include a receipt, if you choose to designate a delivery agent.

A poll watcher is a person who has official permission to be at the polling place on election day. Names of prospective poll watchers, along with the designation form, should be submitted to the County Auditor prior to election day.
