Overview
The MAPS committee is funded by the Story County Assessor and the Story County General Fund.
History
The MAPS Committee first met in June 1985 to discuss computerization and overall improvement of the county plat maps. Many departments were involved in the initial discussions and the process took a few years before new aerial photos and maps were delivered.
The mapping technology has gone through several changes over the last few decades: from paper maps to utilizing CAD software and finally to a sophisticated system with data stored in an RDBMS.
Collaborative Effort
Many Story County and City of Ames departments attend the MAPS meetings and provide insight on priorities, new tasks and projects, and methods to increase the usefulness of the GIS.
