Duties:
The county attorney performs the following legal services:
- Presenting all mental health commitment proceedings and all juvenile delinquency and child-in-need-of-assistance cases
- Prosecuting all violations of state criminal laws and county ordinances
- Providing legal advice to the Board of Supervisors and county and township officers concerning county matters
- Representing and defending the state, county, and its officers in officially-related cases
Restrictions
The following is a list of legal services the county attorney does not offer:
- Filing lawsuits for private persons or defending them against lawsuits, including actions for dissolution of marriage
- Giving legal advice to or representing private groups or persons
- Preparing wills, deeds, or other legal documents for private individuals
