Progress has been slow, as moisture from rain and groundwater have remained in the silt-filled lakebed. As it continues to dry out, a small, shallow pool remains by the lake embankment. The sediment retention forebay areas, visible from I-35, are under construction. These forebay sites are being excavated, with dredged material being taken to the spoil site. Shaping, stabilization, and water control structures have been installed. The contractor’s anticipated next step is to begin the outlet structure in the dam area. Construction is still anticipated to continue through late 2023. The lake and surrounding paved Touch-A-Life Trail remain closed until the project is complete.
