[ARCHIVED] Controlled Goose Hunt Soon to Open at Hickory Grove Park

The original item was published from September 10, 2024 4:14 PM to January 31, 2025 12:05 AM

Again this year, Story County Conservation is offering a controlled goose hunt at Hickory Grove Park to reduce the numbers and amount of time that geese use the lake as a fall and winter refuge.  Large goose populations contribute to the bacterial level of the lake.

Hickory Grove Park is open for goose hunting only from September 28 – October 13, 2024, October 19 – December 10, 2024, and December 21, 2024 – January 18, 2025. Hunting will be confined to the main lake and its shores except for the beach area, campground, north side of island waterfronts, and the shoreline area at the east end of the lake by the public roadway and walking trail. Hunting hours are one-half hour before sunrise to 10:00 a.m. through October 31; then one-half hour before sunrise to sunset thereafter. All state and federal hunting laws apply. Hunters may use portable blinds, but gas boat motors are not allowed.  "HGP

Hunting dates may be closed or modified by Story County Conservation. Hunters must report the number of geese harvested within 24 hours. Please contact the Park Ranger Olivia VanderHart at 515-598-2747 or email at ovanderhart@storycountyiowa.gov with harvest reports.
