Story County Conservation (SCC) was recently awarded the Wildlife Habitat Improvement Award 2024 - 3rd Place, from the Izaak Walton League of America, for Iowa counties of Population 20,000+ (33 counties are in this category).

Recognition is given for outstanding wildlife habitat improvement program including things prescribed fire, tree/shrub plantings, prairie restoration and more. Nesting box programs, like our bluebird and kestrel programs, invasive species management, and volunteer efforts are also considered.

SCC's commitment to improving wildlife habitat is evident, as this is not the first time SCC has received this award:

2024 - 3rd Place

2021 - 2nd Place

2020- 1st Place

2019 - 2nd Place

While not ALL staff were able to make it into this photo, we would still like to recognize each of them for their commitment to Story County natural resources, and the physical hard work they put in. Pictured are Vegetation Management Biologist Ty Hamiel, Natural Resource Specialist Brandon Clough, and Operations Supervisor Jake Smith.

Thank you, Story County, for your moral, volunteer, and monetary support. These large habitat improvements are most definitely a team effort!
