As 2024 comes to a close, Story County Conservation would like to recognize Dr. Nancy Franz for serving the past 10 years as an incredibly dedicated board member. Nancy is a ray of sunshine, with a contagious energy fueled by adventure and determined to make an impact. How lucky we are to have Nancy as a part of our Story.

While serving on the Board, Nancy assisted with bringing countless projects to life, while being an instrumental part of others. Her 10 years of service saw the birth of new county parks including Tedesco Environmental Learning Corridor, Osheim Prairie & Slough Preserve, Wicks Wildlife Area, Deppe Family Conservation Area (acquisition) and more. She was key in the reshaping of our Partners giving program leading to increased donations, and her expertise in volunteer service contributed to deepened engagement within the volunteer program. She’s guided strategic planning efforts and conversations about inclusivity, led numerous OWLS programs and hikes and contributed greatly to the success of Wild Women of the Woods, our largest event of the year.

Most recently, Nancy’s drive to make change included spending fall months educating practically everyone she crossed paths with about the Story County Water & Land Legacy bond that appeared on the November ballot.

All of these things are in addition to selflessly serving the community by volunteering with numerous other organizations and while traveling to countries far and wide.

Nancy has tirelessly gone above and beyond to ensure Story County remains a great place to live, work, and recreate. This is by no means a goodbye, but instead a heartfelt thank you. Nancy, we can’t wait to see what this new beginning has in store!
