[ARCHIVED] Dakins Lake Improvements Open House is May 8

Story County Conservation will hold a public open house meeting on Tuesday, May 8 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Delos and Lucille Dakins Community Center (105 East Main Street) in Zearing.

This meeting will be an opportunity for park users and any other interested community members to give input on the master plan being developed for Dakins Lake. Story County Conservation staff and members from Shive-Hattery Architecture Engineering firm will be present to gather input and answer questions. A brief presentation about the process will begin at 6 p.m.

Dakins Lake, located on the northeast edge of Zearing (12635 710th Ave.), is currently a 41- acre park but will be expanded to a little over 100 acres. As part of that expansion, Story County Conservation plans to increase the amount of open water available for public use and build new amenities. The expansion project will be funded by tax-increment financing (TIF) on the windmills in the northeast corner of Story County. The question for this first public meeting is “What would you like to see at the park?”

A second public meeting will be held on Monday, June 4, 5 – 7 p.m. at the Delos and Lucille Dakins Community Center to discuss the proposed master plan. If you cannot attend the public meetings but would like to give input, contact Story County Conservation at 515-232-2516 (8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday), or email conservation@storycounty.com.
