It is that time of year again. Flu season!!!
Flu – short for influenza – is a respiratory illness that spreads easily from person to person. Vaccination is your best protection against the flu, and everyone age 6 months and older should get the vaccine. There are several options this year for Veterans to receive flu shots at no charge.
The VA Medical Center in Des Moines will be holding a walk-in flu clinic from October 2 to October 31, Monday through Friday, 9am to 3pm. In addition, the walk-in clinic is available on the following Saturdays from 8am to noon: October 14, 21, and 28.
Veterans may also get a flu shot at Primary HealthCare clinics at any time Monday through Friday, from 8am to 4 pm, even when a walk-in flu clinic is not being held.
Walgreen's has partnered with the VA again this year to provide Veterans with flu shots at no charge to the Veteran. The Veteran must be able to present a Veteran ID card or a DD214 in order to receive it.
Flu shots will also be provided free of charge to Veterans in Story County at the Supermarket of Veterans Benefits being held Friday, November 17 from 9am to 3pm at the Moose Lodge in Ames (644 W.190th St).
If you are a patient of the VA Medical Center in Des Moines and you receive your flu shot outside of the VA, please notify the VA of that.
