[ARCHIVED] Concerned Your Septic System Has Flooded?

If you are concerned that your septic system has flooded, DO NOT pump the septic tank. This could lead to the tank collapsing or floating. Cut back on water use as much as possible. After flooding has subsided, pump the septic system as soon as possible. Hire a professional septic tank cleaner to remove any debris that has built up and to inspect the system for damage. Examine all electrical connections for damage before restoring electricity. Please contact the Environmental Health Department for advice or to see if your system diagram is on file. If you had sewage back up into your house, thoroughly disinfect the area, using a chlorine solution of a half cup of chlorine bleach to each gallon of water.
