[ARCHIVED] Getting Emergency Information on Your Cell Phone

Did you get a text message on your mobile phone in December alerting you that a Blizzard Warning had been issued for Story County? If you didn’t, your cell phone may not be capable of taking advantage of the new Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS) warning system. This system sends a text message to your cell phone to alert you to important information such as severe weather warnings. The great thing is that as you travel, the system adjusts to provide you alerts only for your current location. The following link takes you to a list of phones that currently supports this capability http://www.storycountyiowa.gov/DocumentCenter/View/3003. If your phone isn’t on this list, there are free apps you can download to enable this function on your phone. If you are getting a new phone, ask the sales person to make sure this feature is installed. It may save your life.
