[ARCHIVED] SCC trails sustain damage from May flooding

Many of Story County Conservation’s areas were flooded in the rainfall and high water events at the end of May.

The Heart of Iowa Nature Trail sustained a great deal of damage. The most damaged miles are from Cambridge to Maxwell (597th Ave. to 630th Ave.) and one mile west of Collins (690th Ave to US 65). Most of the trail is useable to equestrians and hikers but cyclist can expect the limestone to be eroded in many areas.

The Praeri Rail Trail also sustained damage to the limestone trail from Roland to County Road S-14.

Please use extreme caution when exploring our trails and natural areas.
