Early Voting is now available for the Ames City Special Election to be held March 4, 2014.

Starting today, all eligible voters residing within the City of Ames can vote at the Story County Auditor’s Office. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Auditor’s Office is located on the second floor of the Story County Administration Building, 900 6th Street, Nevada. The last day to vote in person at the Auditor’s Office is Monday, March 3.

Voters can request a mailed absentee ballot by filling out the “Official Iowa Absentee Ballot Request Form.” These forms are available on the Story County Website at www.storycountyiowa.gov under the Auditor and Elections link.

An absentee ballot received in the mail can be returned by the following methods:

1. Mail—an envelope is provided and postage is pre-paid. The postmark must be no later than Monday, March 3rd.
2. In person—you may deliver your ballot to the County Auditor’s office. The deadline is 8:00 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, March 4th.
3. By Designee—have someone else to mail or deliver the ballot for you. The instructions found in your Absentee Ballot package will include a receipt which you may use for this purpose.

Polling place locations for the Ames special election: Seven vote centers will be available. Any registered voter within the City of Ames who is eligible to vote in the special election may vote at any one of the vote centers listed below:

Vote Center 1 State Forest Nursery, 2404 South Duff Avenue
Vote Center 2 University Baptist Church, 2400 Mortensen Parkway
Vote Center 3 Heartland Baptist Church, 3504 Grand Avenue
Vote Center 4 Bethesda Lutheran Church, 1517 Northwestern Avenue
Vote Center 5 Ascension Lutheran Church, 2400 Bloomington Road
Vote Center 6 Collegiate United Methodist Church, 2622 Lincoln Way
Vote Center 7 Trinity Christian Reformed Church, 3626 Ontario Street

The deadline to register to vote for the special election is 5:00 p.m., Friday, February 21st in the Auditor’s Office. After that date, Election Day Registration procedures will apply.
