Biography
Brett served in the United States Navy for 21 years (1978-1999) and retired as a Chief Petty Officer. During that time he was in the Navy's aviation program working on the flight deck on aircraft carriers maintaining the F-14 Tomcat aircraft. He also served as a Navy Instructor at training commands, Boot Camp Company Commander at Great Lakes, and Recruiter in Ames.

His top three awards include:
  • (1) Navy Commendation Medal
  • (3) Navy Achievement Medals
  • (5) Good Conduct Medals
Service & Organizations
Brett has served as the Story County Veterans Affairs Director since April 1999. During this time, Brett has certified with the State of Iowa Commission of Veterans Affairs as a County Veterans Service Officer, and he has certified as a National Service Officer with the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers. Brett graduated with a degree in business management at William Penn University.

  • National Association of County Veterans Service Officers (NACVSO)
State Activities
Brett served as Vice President for two years and as President for two years of the Iowa Association of County Commissioners of Veteran Affairs (IACCVA) during 2000-2004. Currently he serves as Second Vice President and on the Fair committee for IACCVA. Brett is active with ESGR (Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve). He also serves as chairman of the education committee and of the resolution committee for the Iowa Association of County Commissioners of Veterans Affairs.
