Seasonal/Summer Positions

Story County Conservation employs around 20 seasonal employees during the months of May through August. Positions work with IRVM, field, and naturalist staff. Positions open in early December and application period ends in early January.  

  • Naturalist: Teach nature education and various outdoor skills to a variety of ages/demographics
  • Conservation Aide: Maintain and enhance parks, trails, and campgrounds and natural areas
  • Vegetation Management Aide: Assist Story County Roadside Vegetation 
  • Mgmt. program with native vegetation management in roadsides, prairie remnants and open ditches

College Positions

Available during the school year in multiple interest areas. Contact us directly if interested

Story County Conservation offers unpaid internships during the school year (August-May). Application deadline for the spring semester is the last Friday in December. Application deadline for the fall semester is the first Friday in May.

Land Stewardship Practicum 

Land Stewardship Practicum participants work with Story County Conservation’s Natural Resource Specialist. College course credit can be received after completion of the practicum. For more information, view the Land Stewardship page.

Contract Positions

Contract positions exist for on-site campground attendants at Hickory Grove Park in Colo and Dakins Lake in Zearing. Applications are made available after the camping season each year and positions are typically filled by mid-March.
