Tattoo Parlor Inspections

Story County Environmental Health Department has contracted with the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) to inspect Story County tattoo establishments as licensed under Iowa Code Chapter 135 and Iowa Administrative Code (IAC) Chapter 641.22.

Iowa codes establish minimum safety and sanitation criteria for the operation of tattooing establishments. Our contract requires annual inspections of all licensed permanent, temporary, and mobile tattoo establishments within Story County; as well as, inspections on an as needed or complaint basis. Operators must obtain a permit for their facility from the Iowa Department of Public Health prior to operation.
