The Story County Sheriff's Office Administration Division is responsible for the training, budgeting, and overall leadership and organization of the office. The Story County Sheriff's Office Communications Division is responsible for answering 911, non-emergency, and administrative calls. Additionally, they provide paging/dispatching services for the Sheriff’s Office, Nevada Police, Huxley Police, Story City Police, thirteen fire agencies, twelve emergency medical service agencies, and three ambulance services operating within Story County. The Field Services Division of the Story County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for uniformed patrol, investigative/detective services, and the operation of the Story County Sheriff's Office Emergency Response and Crisis Negotiations Teams. Investigative positions within the Field Services Division include the FBI Violent Gang Task Force, Central Iowa Drug Task Force, and general detective/investigative positions. The Support Services Division is responsible for receiving, processing and serving civil and criminal court orders and legal documents. Additionally, the Story County Sheriff's Office Dive Team, Uncrewed Aircraft Systems Team, and Reserve Deputy program is also managed and operated by the Support Services Division. The Story County Sheriff's Office Jail Division runs a one-hundred-and-twenty-two bed facility responsible for the custody and care of incarcerated individuals within Story County. With a staff consisting of full-time Detention Officers and Jail Cooks, as well as contracted medical, mental health, and jail diversion staff, our facility runs twenty-four-hours a day, all year long.
